Welcome to GotSpot. The following instructions will tell you everything you need to know about getting online.

What You Need

A laptop, PDA or mobile that is wireless-enabled and a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari.

Get Connected

  • Obtain an access voucher from the bar, counter or reception to get access to the Internet. Access vouchers may require the purchase of an item.
  • Turn on your wireless-enabled device.
  • Connect to the GotSpot wireless network (for help please see 'Connecting to GotSpot wireless network')
  • Open your web browser and go to any website, you will then be directed to the GotSpot web page.
  • If you have used GotSpot before simply enter your login details and access voucher code. If it is your first time connecting to GotSpot, you will need to register your details with us, click on Get Registered.
  • Fill in the required fields, and click on Submit Details. Once your account has been created successfully you will be prompted to return to the login screen.
  • Login using your username and password plus the code on your access voucher.

Connecting to a Wireless Network

Windows Users

  • Click on Start, then Control Panel and double click on Network Connections. Right click on Wireless Network Connection and select View Available Wireless Networks.
  • Select GotSpot and click Connect.

Mac users

  • Click on AirPort Wireless Icon in the toolbar and select Turn AirPort On.
  • Select GotSpot from the list of available wireless networks.

Windows mobile users

  • Make sure your wireless is turned on by selecting the WiFi button in Comm Manager.
  • To connect to the GotSpot network, tap Start then Settings. On the Connections tab select Network Cards. GotSpot should appear in the list of networks displayed.
  • To connect, tap and hold the GotSpot network and select Connect.
   NB   If you are having problems getting connected please see ‘Troubleshooting’.


Troubleshooting

Check your wireless network settings (based on Windows XP)

  • Click on Start, then Control Panel and double click on Network Connections. Right click on Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.
  • Click on the Wireless Networks tab. Within the Preferred networks section, select GotSpot and click on Properties. If no wireless networks are visible, please ensure your wireless is switched on or your wireless card is installed correctly.
  • Check that Network Authentication is set to Open and Data encryption is set to Disabled then click OK.
  • Back on the Wireless Networks tab, click on the Advanced button and ensure that Access Point (infrastructure) networks only is selected, and then click on Close.
  • Click on the General tab. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on Properties.
  • Check that Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected, Then click on OK to close window.

Check your web browser settings

    You may need to configure Microsoft® Internet Explorer. Open your web browser and click on Tools then Internet Options.
  • Click on the Connectionstab, then click on LAN settings to check that Automatically detect settings, Use automatic configuration script and Use a proxy server for your LAN are not selected. Click on OK to close the window, then click on OK to close the Internet Options window.
NB If you have had to make a change to any of your settings during this configuration process, please restart your laptop.

Check your AirPort settings (based on Mac OS X)

    If the AirPort Wireless Icon cannot be found on the toolbar. Open Apple System, and click on Network.
  • Click on the drop down menu Show and select AirPort. Make sure there is a tick in option Show AirPort status in menu bar.
